Ain Shams University Middle East North Africa FAIMER Regional Institute strives to build an ever-growing community of health professions educators capable of changing the world we live in. These are the change agents of tomorrow who will continue to plant seeds in hope that one day communities can lead a healthy life.

On the occasion of the graduation of the first batch of fellows from the Ain Sham Middle East North Africa FAIMER Regional Institute program on the 9th of January 2021, we would like to announce our annual award “Health Professions Educator of The Year”

Certified health professions educators from the Middle East and North Africa Region who demonstrate sufficient impact on their schools, countries, or the region, for the academic year 2019/2020 are encouraged to apply.

Winning this prestigious award and carrying the title gives you the chance to be featured on the ASU MENA FAIMER Website in addition to a 25000 LE monetary award.

Eligibility and evaluation Criteria
The applicant should:

  1. have a personal statement that is authentic, of value and relevant
  2. have good communication skills
  3. demonstrate good Leadership qualities
  4. be a role model
  5. be certified as a health professions educator
  6. excel in one or more of the following domains

Assessment domain
The applicant can demonstrate excellence in any of the following areas if any
1) Setting or developing assessment strategy of his/her faculty
2) Leading of assessment center/unit/committee in his/her faculty
3) Founding/heading/acting as a member of committees concerned with assessment in the faculty (Written exam revision committee, clinical and practical exam revision committee, item bank committee, electronic correction committee, electronic exams committee, statistical analysis in assessment committee, training committee, ….etc)
4)  Developing/revising/ judging item bank in his/her discipline
5) Delivering training courses/webinars in the domain of assessment
6) Participating in standard setting
7) Demonstrating adaptation practices in the domain of assessment in his/her faculty
8) Organizing or participating in conferences in the domain of assessment
9) Collaborating with universities other than his/her university to share experiences of assessment in health professions education

Curriculum domain
The applicant can demonstrate excellence in any of the following areas if any
1) Being program coordinator/module coordinator/department coordinator in undergraduate program
2) Participating in formation of curriculum or bylaws of new undergraduate program in his/her faculty (If the applicant is from countries that has recently introduced a new program like Egypt)
3) Membership in the curriculum committee of undergraduate program
4) Delivering successful training courses for curriculum design/development
5) Founding or sharing in development of a new curriculum/certificate in his/her school
6) Sharing in development of postgraduate curricula
7) Revising or judging curricula inside or outside his/her faculty
8) Membership of Quality Assurance unit in the domain of auditing curricula
9) Organizing or participating in conferences in the domain of curriculum development
10) Collaborating with universities other than his/her university to share experiences of curriculum development in health profession education

Teaching domain
The applicant can demonstrate excellence in any of the following areas if any

1) Being the head or member in committees of teaching development
2) Delivering training courses/workshops/webinars about development of teaching methodology in health professions education.
3) Auditing and monitoring implementation of small/large group teaching and practical/clinical sessions
4) Introducing a new methodology for efficient teaching in his/her faculty
5) Proving to be a good teacher

Educational management
The applicant can demonstrate excellence in any of the following areas if any

1) Being a part of the school administration
2) Participation in developing curriculum, assessment or teaching methodology at either undergraduate or postgraduate level
3) Nomination of his/her institution for national or international prizes
4) Showing evidence of innovative scientific practices in educational leadership

Educational scholarship
The applicant can demonstrate excellence in any of the following areas if any
1) Demonstrating commitment to educational scholarship

2) Having a track record of educational publications in Q1, 2 or 3 Journals

3) Ability to demonstrate research impact on educational practice

4) Demonstration of capacity to lead and become a team member in research teams at the same time.
